Jazmine Sullivan

JazmineJazmine is a Philadelphia native, was born and raised there. Pam her mother is a former back-up singer at Philadelphia International Records. At the age of five, old, her father got a position as a curator for Philadelphia's Historic Strawberry Mansion in the Strawberry Mansion section, and her family moved into the landmark historical building. The year 2005 marks her Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts graduated and a major in vocal music. Sullivan performed as the contralto singer for the kids' choir. She later sang in the adult choir. Sullivan had limited exposure to secular music. She relates that she was in her 11th year when someone asked her to sing solos at the church. However, she was not fully ready. "I had the privilege of being able to win in a McDonald's competition, which offered children from major cities the chance to sing 'Accept whatever God wills'. The audience responded to the song well." She performed with Stevie Wonder at his grandson's birthday at the age of thirteen. Sullivan had signed her first contract to Jive Records when she was 15. She recorded an entire album, but the album never came out. Sullivan was eventually dropped from the label. They maintained a friendship with Missy Elliott, who produced a number of the tracks on her debut album, such as the brash single "Backstabbers" which was produced by Timbaland and composed by Elliott.
